November is an exciting month at Mattress Firm. Whether you visit one of our store locations or stop by our corporate office, you will see lots of purple. Even our signature delivery drivers are donning purple shirts in honor of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Because the Mattress Firm Foundation’s national focus is to raise money and awareness for pancreatic cancer research, this month offers us the perfect opportunity to spread the word about the work we are doing to fight this deadly disease.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Though other forms of cancer have seen improved survival rates, pancreatic cancer remains the only major cancer that still has a five-year survival rate in the single digits at 6 percent. The death rate for pancreatic cancer continues to rise and is expected to become the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. as early as 2015.

Those scary statistics, along with the feeling of hopelessness that many families feel when the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is determined, are the reason why the Mattress Firm Foundation has declared pancreatic cancer our national focus. In order to raise awareness during the month of November, we’ve been showing the Mattress Firm Foundation commercial across the nation. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, you can watch it here.
